Social Little Butterflies ~ Lots of praise and reassurance.
Our Chatterbug Staff Team: Leanne, Penny, Rowan & Gilian.
Welcome to the world of the 2-3 year old ...where what's yours is mine, what's mine is mine and if I've only seen it once it's mine, too!
The 2-3 year old child is learning to assert themselves in order to achieve the independence they desire. They gain this independence through a long process of trial and error.
Although play is still a central part of learning for this age group, our chitterbug children require adult support, guidance and encourgement. Our chitterbug staff team are sensitive to young children's abilities to co-operate with others and actively encourage children to take turns during play. By providing them with a safe and secure environment, they can feel free to explore the jitterbug playroom through self-directed play at their own pace.
We understand that curious, independent children are growing rapidly and need a stimulating environment that supports their development. Children begin to participate in structured activities that are designed to encourage the development of their fine and gross motor skills, listening and speaking skills, and early literacy skills. We provide chatterbugs daily opportunities that encourage them to practise newly developed skills and plan activities that will help develop their confidence.
Two-year-olds often spend a lot of time in pretend play with friends. As they approach three, they begin to make up stories and "rules" for their games. The chatterbug room offers many opportunities for children to develop independence and engage in new experiences, explore and experiment. .
Our chatterbug program is purposefully designed to be flexible - our staff provide the children with the materials and guidance necessary to enjoy varied learning experiences, but adapts each and every activity to meet the children's changing needs, tap into their emerging interests, and engage their curious minds! activities include: puzzles, cutting , gluing, dressing, washing, brushing-teeth, pouring, sifting, sorting, weighing, measuring, watering plants, sweeping, polishing, serving food, pouring drinks. The chatterbug routine balances familiarlity with challenge and surprises. Built into the programme we recognise the need for children to have time to be quiet and rest.
We maintain a child to staff ration of 1:5 for our chatterbugs; small group sizes are essential in meeting the needs of activlely growing children.
